Highlights

Highlights from the FOBBV YouTube Team: ⬇️ 8/1 * The Big Bear Nest Diaries: A beautiful sunrise 🌄 greeted us once more this morning, Big Bear Valley has such pretty sunrises! A Sub-adult was up early today going to the Cactus 🌵 Snag at 5:35. Then they went to the Lookout Snag at 6:12. Meanwhile, in the nest a chipmunk 🐿️ found a snack at 8:52. A Sub-adult flew to the Cactus Snag again at 10:57 and perched through the afternoon. Tonight a Swallow perched on the Front Porch starting at 17:53, looking like it was drifting off to sleep. 😴 On the Roost Tree, 🌲 we spotted one American Bald Eagle at 20:18. 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️ * Quiet Moments: The nest 🪹 may rest in quiet now, but it is far from empty, it still holds the echoes of Jackie and Shadow’s unwavering devotion, the gentle breeze 🍃 carrying memories of seasons filled with love, hope, and new beginnings. Every sunrise 🌄 reminds us that nature is always turning another page, and every sunset ♥️ whispers that tomorrow with grateful hearts, may we find peace in stillness, trust in the journey, and remember that the greatest stories continue long ⏱️ after the nest grows quiet. * Daily Fun Fact: “Red-Breasted Nuthatch (RBNU) ~ RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH” The Red-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta canadensis) is a tiny, energetic 🎼 songbird. These small, blue-gray birds with rusty-red bellies. Unlike woodpeckers and creepers, which can only hop up tree 🌳trunks, Red-breasted Nuthatches can walk headfirst straight ⬇️ down trees. They don't use their tails for support, either; they rely entirely on extra-strong, sharp claws to grip the bark as they hunt for hidden insects 🐜 in every crevice. Nuthatches get their name from their habit of taking large seeds 🌱 or nuts, jamming them into a notch in tree bark, and "hatching" (whacking) them open with their sharp 🐦 beaks. If they find more food than they can eat, they become busy little hoarders – hiding seeds under loose bark and lichen to retrieve later during cold ❄️ winter months. 🪶 📊 Today’s Tallies: 💠Jackie (J): 0 min in nest ❤️‍🩹 💠Shadow (S): 0 min in nest 💠Chicks (C): Sandy and Luna are exploring the area and both are spending the night off the nest after dark! 🌔✨ *only a few events-of-interest are listed
