Jackie and Shadow continue their devoted care, and our excitement grows as the second egg has now piped! 🐣 The overflowing love, patience, and dedication from these two is a gift not just to each other, but to all of us witnessing this miracle. Every tiny sound, every careful movement, reminds us of the wonder of new life and the warmth that surrounds it. 💛
* Daily Fun Fact: “BUILT IN LUNCHBOX” 📦Just before an eagle chick breaks 🐣free, It sucks its remaining food supply (yoke sac) right into its own body. This process ensures the hatchling has enough energy to survive the exhausting work of hatching and its first few days in the nest. The yolk sac is often called a "built-in lunchbox" because the chick pulls the entire remaining sac into its abdomen through the navel opening just before it hatches. This internalized yolk provides all the proteins, fats, and water the chick needs for its first 24 to 72 hours of life. The nutrients from the yolk give the chick the "extra fuel" it needs for the strenuous 12 to 48-hour "unzipping" process. Because of this reserve, eagle parents don't need to feed their chicks immediately. The yolk isn't just food; it also contains maternal antibodies passed down from the mother to protect the fragile chick from infections during its first week. 🪶
