* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: The night was full of action as Jackie’s wingslaps 🪽 echoed through the valley. The chicks had their morning breakfast at 6:03. A Male Osprey was observed at 7:38 on the 🌵Cactus Snag, with his fish. Speaking of fish, the chicks also got a second and third fish 🐟 breakfast by the time it turned 8:35. It’s no wonder they were acting a bit full at the 11:08 feeding. By the time night came, both chick’s crops were full, basically they have crop pillows now. 😁 Jackie continues to brood the chicks tonight. 🌙Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, and chicks, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: Jackie and Shadow continue to shine as a devoted family. Both Jackie 🦅 and Shadow 🦅 gently feed their two chicks 🐥, each bite shared with such care and patience. Together they create a calm loving space where their chicks 🐥 can thrive. ♥️
* Daily Fun Fact: “OSPREY - OSPR”: Ospreys are fascinating because they are one of the few raptors where you can often tell the male and female apart just by looking at their "jewelry." The easiest way to tell them apart is by looking at their chests. Females usually sport a "brown necklace" a ring of dark, streaky feathers around their throat/upper breast. Males typically have a pure white chest or a very faint, thin necklace. If you see an Osprey that looks like it’s wearing a statement piece of jewelry, it’s likely the lady of the nest. Ospreys are the only raptors that dive completely underwater to catch food. To help them see, they have a third eyelid (nictitating membrane) that is semi-transparent. It acts like a pair of goggles, allowing them to see clearly while submerged at high speeds. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 7 nest 🪺 visits, 4 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 3 hours, 44 min. Bringing 3 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 16 feedings. Full crops were observed on both chicks. 11 PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 were right on 🎯!!
