Highlights from the FOBBV YouTube Team: ⬇️ 4/11 * The Big Bear Nest Diaries: Overnight brought strong 🌬️ winds, but Jackie stayed close, keeping both chicks safely tucked beneath her. The 🌞 morning shift began at 7:57, after Shadow was spotted heading to the Cactus Snag. At 7:57 a Sub-Adult few by him 🦅, and Shadow quickly came back to the nest to relieve Jackie. She then took her first break at The Lookout Snag. The chicks are growing and with growing comes new skills. They are doing small wingers 🪽 (11:38), as well as starting to preen (15:47) themselves. Jackie served dinner 🐟 at 18:26 and now continues to brood.🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow and chicks, we love you! ♥️ * Quiet Moments: Today the nest is peaceful and calm, as the bonking eased compared to previous days. After a fish delivery, Shadow lingered on the front porch , watching over his family, while Jackie gently fed their chicks. Jackie and Shadow continue to nurture both chicks as they grow day by day. 🐥💗 * Daily Fun Fact: “WINGERS 🪽” (or wing-ercising) is the term used for the adorable 🥹 and intense stage where hatchlings practice their flapping. An eagle's wing bones can grow up to half an inch a day. Doing wingers helps ensure that the tendons and muscles are stretching at the same rate as the bone. If they didn't flap, their rapidly growing bodies would actually become stiff and "bound." Because they grow from a 🐥 tiny fluff ball to 80% of their adult 🦅 size in just 4-5 weeks, their muscles need to catch up. At 2-3 Weeks wingers are shaky little flaps while sitting down. At 4-5 Weeks The Slap, standing up, hitting the nest floor and siblings. At 6-7 Weeks “The Hover” lifts feet off the nest for a few seconds. At 8 Week “The Helicopter” Sustained hovering almost ready to fledge! Liftoff! 🪶 * Daddy Duties: Shadow had 4 nest 🪺 visits, 5 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 2 hours, 44 min. Bringing 1 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟 * Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 13 feedings.
