* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: A beautiful sunrise 🌄 greeted the eagles this morning with vibrant colors. At 6:34 Shadow was observed perched on the Headless Tree while Jackie had already given the chicks their first feeding. There was plenty of rain 💦 today, which meant that Jackie did pull out the mombrella ☔ to keep the chicks dry and warm. Jackie usually prefers to be the one who broods during such weather as well. We did get a dusting of snow around 16:48 too, but it didn’t stick around. Full crops were observed for both chicks during their 18:52 feeding. Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow and chicks, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: Today’s quiet moments on the nest 🪹 remind us of true strength and devotion. As harsh weather rolls through, Jackie remains steadfast, keeping the chicks tucked safely beneath her warm, protected, and comforted. Through wind 🌬️and uncertainty, she endures it all, showing what an incredible mother she is. Nearby, Shadow stands ready, providing an ever watchful just a call away if she needs him. Together, their unwavering partnership shines, a powerful bond built on trust, care, and love. 💕
* Daily Fun Fact: “MOMBRELLA” ☂ During inclement weather Jackie will spread her wings to cover and protect her 🐥chicks. Her brood patch will keep them warm. It's called Dadbrella when Shadow does the same. The parent engages their leg muscles to hover slightly or "tent" their body. They support their weight on their "elbows" (the carpal joints of the wings) and their feet, creating a sturdy, breathable canopy that can withstand high winds and heavy snow. Eagle feathers are naturally oily and interlocked like shingles on a roof. When an eagle spreads its wings 🪽 to cover the chicks during a storm, the water doesn't soak through; it beads off the "umbrella" and onto the nest floor. This keeps the chicks’ downy fluff bone-dry. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 4 nest 🪺 visits, 2 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 1 hour, 24 min. Bringing 2 fish and 1 prey to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 9 feedings. Full crops were observed on both chicks.11 PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 was right on 🎯!!
