Highlights from the FOBBV YouTube Team: ⬇️ 4/16 * The Big Bear Nest Diaries: The chicks were safely tucked beneath Jackie through the night 💤. In the morning, Jackie feeds both chicks 🐥 at 5:52 while Shadow is observed scanning the territory on the headless tree. We did observe some territorial activity with ravens around 6:55. Most of the day was pretty calm with lots of feedings, fish 🐟 deliveries and some 🌿 fluff. Chicks were comfortable under Mom & Dad today with some good stretches, we were able to get a peek at their “clown feet” a few times.😁 thank you Camops. At 19:42 Shadow brought a fish head to the nest, and Jackie fed the chicks once more as night fell..🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow and chicks, we love you! ♥️ * Quiet Moments: Tonight a quiet tender moment unfolds as Jackie gazes at her chicks with such quiet pride. You see it in the way she watches over them, calm, steady and full of love♥️. A beautiful reminder of her strength, her care, and deep bond she shares with her growing family. 🦅 🐥🐥🦅 * Daily Fun Fact: “CONTOUR FEATHERS ” Juvenile 🦅 feathers start around week 3-4, stiff, dark brown-to-black “contour” and flight feathers start to emerge. During week 4 natal down is often the last to go, creating a “mohawk” 😍 look before dark juvenile feathers fill in. New feathers emerge as pin feathers, encased in a waxy keratin sheath that looks like tiny blue tubes. As the feathers grow, the eaglet preens off the sheath, allowing the feather to unfurl. Juvenile feathers actually grow from the same follicles as the natal down, often pushing the original white fuzz out on their tips as they emerge. 💗 🪶 * Daddy Duties: Shadow had 9 nest 🪺 visits, 3 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 2 hours, 33 min. Bringing 3 fish and 1 prey to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟 * Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 9 feedings.
