Highlights from the FOBBV YouTube Team: ⬇️ 4/15 * The Big Bear Nest Diaries: 🐥The chicks naming contest has opened! Please enter here: https://friendsofbigbearvalley.org/naming-contest/ 🐥 Dash had several visits during the night and Jackie greeted him with some wingslaps😁. It was an early, action-packed morning 🌄 with Jackie and Shadow as they were observed chasing Common Ravens at 6:18 on Cam 2. Shadow then remained in the nest for his daddy duty. Today Jackie and Shadow brought both food and nest materials to the nest 🪹. The chicks are growing quickly, we are able to see the darker grey areas where new feather growth is happening, this growth is their thermal down. Around 17:24 Jackie & Shadow also enjoyed some leftovers for dinner, before Jackie fed the chicks. Shadow went towards the RT at 19:12 while chicks were fed once more.🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow and chicks, we love you! ♥️ * Quiet Moments: After bringing in a fish 🐟 and enjoying a bit of breakfast on the nest by herself this morning ☀️, Jackie sat and looked on as her chicks continued to do little eagle 🦅 things - from tiny crop drops to preening and the sweetest stretches. Jackie then aerated the nest bowl 🪹, making it extra fluffy, and tucked herself in over two well-fed, resting chicks 🐥 almost as if to say “you’re growing up so fast.”: ♥️ * Daily Fun Fact: CHICKS🐥Thermal Down: Eaglets undergo a rapid and complex feather-growing process to transform from tiny “fluff balls” into powerful raptors 🦅 in just 10 to 12 weeks. Natal down, eaglets 🐣 hatch with a thin, silky layer of white “natal” down that helps them dry off but offers little warmth. Thermal Down comes in around day 10, a thicker, darker gray “thermal” down begins to cover them. This dense layer provided the insulation they needed to regulate their own body temperature, as long as they are dry. 🪶 * Daddy Duties: Shadow had 7 nest 🪺 visits, 4 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 6 hours, 19 min. Bringing 2 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟 * Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 10 feedings.
