* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: After a few vocals 🎶 Shadow took his first morning shift at 6:02. Shadow also gave the chicks their second breakfast. With each feeding the chicks grow, and they are starting to peck at the food, slowly recognizing that food doesn’t just come from the beak. At 10:14 chick 1 🐥 even picks up a piece of dropped food all by themselves. Shadow did a quick visit tonight at 18:39 with a fish, before flying off leaving Jackie to tend to the chicks. 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow and chicks, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: After Jackie brought a “whopper” of a fish 🐟 to the nest, the entire family spent some quiet time together in the mid-afternoon. With Jackie keeping watch near the front porch, and Shadow sitting quietly at their side, the two chicks slept 😴 in the shade - dozing peacefully, knowing that Mom and Dad were both nearby. They stayed like this for just over an hour - the perfect portrait of teamwork and trust. 💗
* Daily Fun Fact: "Do EAGLES Fart ?" 🤭 The short answer is NO, eagles don't fart, their biology just isn't built for it. They digest their food incredibly quickly to keep their bodies light for flight. They have Different Gut Bacteria. Eagles lack the specific gas-producing bacteria (methanogens) that humans possess. Without those specific microbes, their stomachs don't produce the methane or hydrogen sulfide required for a "toot." Eagles have a cloaca, a single opening for both liquid and solid waste. When they go, everything - the uric acid (the white stuff) and the solid waste - comes out all at once. This highly efficient system doesn't really leave "pockets" for air to get trapped and expelled separately. Some birds like chickens actually can pass gas! Because they are ground-dwellers and have a different digestive structure (called a ceca) for fermenting tough plant fibers, they can occasionally produce a bit of flatulence. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 6 nest 🪺 visits, 6 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 7 hours, 1 min. Bringing 1 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 9 feedings. Full crops were observed on both chicks. 29+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 were right on 🎯!!
