* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: 🎉Happy Earth Day! 🌎This morning Jackie fed the chicks as usual and Shadow came in with a fish 🐟 at 6:04. Jackie and Shadow have both been doing their eagle parent duties throughout the day. We are still keeping an eye on Jackie and Shadow though they are both doing normal eagle things including eating and hunting. The chicks are developing right before our eyes, sporting large crop pillows too. At 10:13, while zooming on the chicks’ pin feathers 🪶, we also accidentally got a close-up Poop-shot. 😂 Their digestive systems seem healthy too. Later, our camera operators got another great (poop-shot free!) zoom on the chick’s wing pin feathers at 17:23. 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: Tonight at 18:02, one of the chicks tried to tuck itself in for sleep. 💤 It was a cute, tender moment that melted every heart that was watching. 💗 With each passing day, this little family grows stronger – surrounded by care, resilience and so much love – truly a beautiful journey to witness.
* Daily Fun Fact: " ALULA PIN FEATHERS" 🪶 The alula is a small group of feathers located on the "joint" of the wing. Even though they look small, they are a feat of biological engineering. The alula is independently controlled by its own tiny bone and muscle. What you’re seeing isn't the feather itself, but a keratin sheath (much like a fingernail). It protects the delicate, growing feather which is filled with a rich blood supply (often called "blood🩸feathers"). As the feather grows, the eaglet will preen (zip) the sheath off, and the dark brown feather 🪶 will unfurl. It’s like a butterfly emerging from a tube! Eaglets practicing their "wing-ersizing" in the nest are actually learning how to move these specific feathers. 🦅🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 4 nest 🪺 visits, 6 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 4 hours, 17 min. Bringing 2 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 7 feedings. Full crops were observed on both chicks. 34+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 3 were right on 🎯!!
