* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: Around 7:50 Jackie reacted to the sound of a tree or branch falling, this happens occasionally. Fortunately the eagles live in a healthy tree 🪹. Jackie continued her normal routine of taking care of the chicks. Shadow also did his normal eagle things bringing the first fish 🐟 at 9:05. We observed some territorial activity today around 9:45 when two ravens chased Jackie when she got off the Cactus Snag. A few deliveries of food and nest materials are made all day. Jackie makes the last one at 19:36 with 🌿fluff . 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow and chicks, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: Today, Jackie watched over her chicks as they sat wide eyed, taking in the world around them. When one of Jackie's feathers 🪶 drifted gently into the air, both chicks paused and stared, completely captivated. A sweet moment, with two little ones learning and exploring, safe under their mother’s care. ♥️
* Daily Fun Fact: "ADVENTUROUS & BONDING" stage! 🪹" Because the chicks are now 18 days old, they are in a high-growth stage. This burns a lot of internal energy, making them run hot! You'll often see them head for the edge of the nest to find a cooler spot for a nap. They are now able to mostly regulate their own body temperature, but they still pant (gular fluttering) to stay cool. Moving away from the soft, heat-trapping grass of the nest bowl to the airier sticks helps them chill out. While they used to "bonk" each other to establish a pecking order, they are now moving into a "bonding" phase, giving each other "beaky kisses" and nibbling on small twigs together. When you see them stretching their necks and looking at the sticks, they are actually practicing fine motor skills. They have started picking up and moving small twigs. They are becoming little detectives, and soon will be searching the "suburbs" of the nest for any tiny scraps of fish Jackie or Shadow might have dropped earlier. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 6 nest 🪺 visits, 3 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 2 hours, 18 min. Bringing 2 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 10 feedings. Full crops were observed on both chicks. 34+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 were right on 🎯!!
