* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: Overnight, at 1:52, Sandy tucked in while standing for the first time, great job Sandy! 👏. This morning, the beautiful sunrise 🌅 shined down upon the eagles, while Jackie and Shadow delivered sticks and fluff! Luna and Sandy spent their time waiting for breakfast doing wingers and relaxing. Luna casted a pellet 🧶at 9:10. At 10:28 Luna and Sandy shared the fish that was delivered by Shadow, both self-feeding at the same time. At 12:06, Jackie flew to the Simba Tree and spent a moment with Shadow who was also perched there. At 15:51, Sandy branches on the back porch while also doing some wingers 🪽 as well. Tonight at 17:59 Jackie was strafed by a Raven while in the Water Watch Tree. Thanks to our awesome camera operators and a certain stick being gone we were able to see the Roost Tree at 19:49, and two adults were there. 🥳 It appears the chicks may have their first night in charge on the nest. 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: After waiting somewhat (im)patiently all morning for their first meal of the day, Sandy and Luna dug right in when Shadow delivered break-fish-t 🐟 at 10:23. The two chicks shared the fish amicably, while Jackie watched from the attic above. It’s incredible to see how far Sandy and Luna have come in such a short time 🥹 – from being fed tiny bite-size pieces to now ripping off their own, and from bonking to now learning how to eat like “big kids” together. 💗
* Daily Fun Fact: : “GRAVITY TRICK” Sleeping while standing up, for an eagle, is the most natural way to get some rest. 😴 They have a specialized system called a tendon locking mechanism in their legs. When an eagle stands up and settles its weight onto a branch, the pressure automatically forces the tendons in their legs to pull tight, snapping their massive talons closed like a heavy-duty clamp. This locking mechanism requires zero muscle energy. An eagle can fall into a deep sleep, and their body weight alone keeps them perfectly anchored. In fact, they actually have to exert conscious physical effort to unlock their feet and let go! While sleeping standing up on a branch, they can engage in a superpower called unihemispheric slow-wave sleep. This means they can shut down half of their brain to sleep while the other half stays awake and alert. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 5 nest 🪺 visits. Total nest time for Shadow was 3 hours, 18 min. Bringing 3 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 2 feedings. Luna and Sandy partook in 😋 self-feeding . Full crops were observed on both chicks. 36+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 were on 🎯!!
