* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: Around 5:15, Jackie awoke while on the front porch vocalizing 🎶,and Shadow’s vocals were heard in the distance. Meanwhile, Luna and Sandy start their wingers at 5:37, strengthening their wings 🪽 early. At 7:03 Luna casts a pellet and later wins a round of tug-o-fish 🐟 at 8:39. Sandy takes it back soon after and both chicks self-feed on that fish. At 11:15, Sandy branches for the first time on the back porch, way to go! 👏 A year ago today Sunny fledged 🎉,and branching is one more step towards that future milestone. Both chicks were vocal today. Luna had vocalizations at 15:54, while Sandy made sounds later at 17:57.🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: We all need a friend that will help us out when we have something on our face 😁 , and today, Luna was that for Sandy. 🥰 Around 14:14, Sandy had a fluffy white feather 🪶 stuck to their beak and laid down near Luna’s feet. Luna instantly noticed the feather and stooped down, nibbling at Sandy’s beak. At first, Sandy wasn’t too sure about this invasion of personal space, but eventually allowed Luna to gently remove the feather from their beak. It was a sweet moment that yet again highlighted their special bond. 💗
* Daily Fun Fact: “BRANCHING” Branching is the ultimate teenage 🥹 milestone for an eaglet. It is the thrilling transition phase where the young bird finally musters up the courage to step out of the nest bowl 🪹 and onto the surrounding branches of the nest tree. Occurring usually around 8 to 9 weeks old, it is the final dress rehearsal before their first official flight 🦅 (fledging). When they first decide to branch, they don't just jump out. They will walk to the absolute edge of the stick nest, stretch one leg out, and delicately wrap a single claw around a neighboring branch. They will often stand like this for hours. 😍 Once they get comfortable on the main branch, they turn the tree 🌲 into an obstacle course. They will begin hopping from branch to branch, gradually climbing higher and higher above the nest. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 5 nest 🪺 visits. Total nest time for Shadow was 2 hours, 22 min. Bringing 4 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 4 feedings. Luna and Sandy partook in 😋 self-feeding . Full crops were observed on both chicks. 28+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 1 was right on 🎯!!
