* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: As the sun rose 🌞 over the valley, Jackie and Shadow spent some well-deserved time together 💕on the Lookout Snag around 5:45. Meanwhile, in the 🪹 nest, Sandy and Luna practiced their 🪽 wingers and spent time together on the Back Porch. At 7:54 Luna swallows the fish 🐟 delivered whole, though Sandy did get a portion of it during their tug-o-fish. 😁 At 11:18 Luna had something to say and vocalized 🎶 a few times. Jackie delivered a fish at 12:59 and hung out at the nest for a while, feeding it a bit later to the chicks. At 17:13 both Sandy and Luna made lots of squees at Shadow. We did see two adults at 20:35 on the Roost Tree. 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: Around 10:27 this morning, Sandy and Luna were in charge of the nest. They spent their time preening their growing feathers 🪶, stretching, and practicing their daily winger-cizes. 🤸 Each flap and stretch helps strengthen the wings 🪽 that will soon carry them beyond the nest. Watching them prepare is a beautiful reminder that the big day is getting closer. ❣️
* Daily Fun Fact: “HOVERING” When an eaglet 🐥reaches about 7 to 8 weeks old, they begin practicing a spectacular aerial maneuver known as hovering (or wing-ercising). Because their massive adult primary flight feathers 🪶 have finally finished growing, they can generate actual lift for the first time. Before they take the BIG leap out of the nest tree to fledge, they turn the nest 🪹 bowl into an engineering lab. This is vital proprioception training (the brain's 🧠 map of where the body is in space). It teaches their nervous system how to maintain a perfect line of sight and target lock while dealing with turbulent crosswinds. An eagle’s flight feathers are packed with tiny nerve endings at the base of the quill. When an eaglet hovers in place for 3 to 5 seconds ⏱️, those nerves are measuring the air pressure, lift capacity, and wind 🌬️ speed. They are literally calibrating their mental "flight computers" so they know exactly how much power to use during their upcoming first flight. 🪶
