* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: The sky cast an orange glow over the valley 🌄 this morning, as Sandy and Luna greeted the day with wingers before perching together on the Front Porch. Shadow delivers break-fish 🐟 at 6:41 and, after a round of tug-o-fish, both chicks self-feed. At 8:17 Luna goes up further on the Y branch, taking in the new views. Sandy played leap-frog 🐸 over Luna while they were both on the Front Porch at 11:55. After delivering the third fish of the day, Shadow had to take a break from all the squee-ing, so he spent some time in the attic around 15:58. He later made a quick escape through V-branch 😂 to the Front Porch at 16:21. Shadow delivered another fish before joining Jackie 🥰 on Twin Pines this evening. 🌙Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: Sandy seemed to thoroughly enjoy soaking up the sunshine 🌞 today, as she demonstrated her picture-perfect horaltic pose 🧘 on several occasions. One of these occurred around 7:10 when Sandy was perched out on the Front Porch, allowing us a fantastic view of her glorious pose from Cam2. Of course, like any dutiful younger sibling, Luna 😁 had to come over to see what Sandy was doing, and even nibbled on her wings 🪽several times. In these moments, we observed a beautiful balance of maturity and grace mixed with playfulness and curiosity – just a few of the personalities that make our Eagle Family whole. 💞
* Daily Fun Fact: “Eaglets at 81 days old” 🦅 an eaglet is standing on the absolute precipice of adulthood. They are effectively fully grown, matching their parents in size and weight. They will spend hours staring intensely out at the horizon 🌄, pacing the nest rails. Their primary flight feathers 🪶 are completely unfurled and hardened. Physically, they are 100% ready to fly – they are just waiting for the right gust of wind 🌬️or the sudden burst of teenage courage to finally let go of the 🌲 tree. The days of their parents delicately tearing up bite-sized pieces of meat are almost long gone. When a parent lands in the nest with food, the eaglet transforms into a squeeing, dramatic 🦖 dinosaur. The moment the fish hits the deck, the eaglet will charge forward and throw its massive wings out wide in a tent-like shape – a behavior called mantling. They will hiss, squee, and guard the food, effectively kicking their own parents out of the nest. 🤭 This specific age is packed with intense drama, psychological breakthroughs, and comedic clumsy moments on the nest. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 4 nest 🪺 visits. Total nest time for Shadow was 1 hour, 59 min. Bringing 4 fish 🐟 to His Chicks.
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 3 feedings. Luna and Sandy partook in 😋 self-feeding . Full crops were observed on both chicks. 31+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 were on 🎯!!
