* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: As the morning sky filled with beautiful clouds and stunning sun rays 🌤️, Luna and Sandy hung out on the front porch together doing wingers 🪽 and watching the habitat below. Jackie and Shadow delivered sticks and several fish 🐟 before a relatively quiet afternoon on the nest. After bringing another fish at 14:10, Shadow spent some time on the Front Porch, where he was joined by both chicks. 🥰 At 16:42 Sandy branches on the Y branch for a moment, while Jackie is also perched there. 💗Tonight both chicks give a few beaky kisses at 18:07 before settling down in the nest 🪹 bowl. 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: The morning hours were filled with curiosities 🧐 and lessons with sticks for the chicks. Around 7:55, Luna picked up a small stick near the Front Porch and, either by accident or by choice, dropped it down to the ground below. Both he and Sandy watched closely 👀 as it fell, perhaps realizing just how high up their nest really is! Shortly after, both Shadow and Jackie delivered more for Sandy and Luna to explore – Shadow brought a large, oddly shaped branch, while Jackie brought a smaller stick filled with pine needles. Although these deliveries weren’t quite the fish 🐟 that Luna and Sandy appeared to be hoping for, each new interaction is a valuable sensory experience so they grow more familiar with what the world has in store. 💗
* Daily Fun Fact: “RER” is short for “Rear end Rub”. Eagles 🦅 have a “preening gland” (uropygial gland) located at the base of their tail. This gland produces a special oil. By rubbing or “wiggling” 😁 their rear, they help stimulate the gland or spread that oil onto their feathers 🪶to keep them waterproof and healthy. Just like any other animal, they sometimes simply have an itch or a bit of sap in their feathers that they need to rub off. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 5 nest 🪺 visits. Total nest time for Shadow was 1 hour, 28 min. Bringing 4 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 3 feedings. Luna and Sandy partook in 😋 self-feeding . Full crops were observed on both chicks. 36+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 were on 🎯!!
