* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: Dawn 🌄 breaks softly over Big Bear Valley, wrapping the quiet pines and still waters in a gentle golden light. A Sub-adult was observed going to the Twin 🌲🌲 Pines at 5:41, an early riser. Meanwhile back at the nest a Lodgepole Chipmunk 🐿️ made many morning visits, bringing a friend to chase at 10:52. The afternoon was a bit breezy 🌬️, but also calm. A White-breasted Nuthatch visited the nest 🪹 at 18:23 during chat tonight. Later an Acorn Woodpecker also visited at 19:19. One Adult was seen on the Roost Tree tonight. 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: Although the nest 🪹 may be empty, its strength is undeniable. Not just from how sturdy it remains through the sway of the winds 🌬️, but from the memories it contains within. Thinking back to all of the long days and nights that both Jackie and Shadow spent incubating eggs or brooding young chicks 🐥 – calm, still, and never wavering – trusting in the fact that the storm would pass and their resilience would overcome. 🥰
* Daily Fun Fact: Acorn Woodpecker (ACWO) (Acorn Woodpecker): 🐦 These woodpeckers have a clown-like face for both males and females. The males have red that extends from the top of their head to their forehead with the rest of the forehead being white. The females; on the other hand, have a red patch on the back of their heads, and a black colored cap. Like their name implies they do enjoy acorns, in fact they enjoy so much they store thousands of them by placing them in specialized drilled holes in trees to snack on later. 🌲 The trees that hold these acorn-filled holes are called granary trees. One granary tree may have up to 50,000 holes in it, which will be filled up with acorns. Acorn Woodpeckers are also quite social, and live in family groups, their young stay with their parents for several years and will even help raise their younger siblings. 🪶
