Highlights

Highlights from the FOBBV YouTube Team: ⬇️ 4/13 * The Big Bear Nest Diaries: Jackie kept the chicks warm and dry through the night 🌙. The first shift change came at 7:59, the chicks had already gotten fed twice by then. The bites are getting bigger, so the amount of feeds given may also start to reduce a little bit. We did see some territorial activity today with camera 2 📷 involving ravens. Jackie chased them off the basement around 11:56. Then Jackie and Shadow escorted the ravens out of their territory starting at 12:02. We did get some snow tonight as well as some thunder ⚡ at 17:36. The brood patch keeps the chicks 🐥🐥 warm and dry. A raven also did strafe Shadow while he was on the ST tonight at 18:55. The ravens may have a nest nearby. Jackie continues to brood. 🌙Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow and Chicks, We love you 💗 * Quiet Moments: Today on the nest 🪹 is a true picture of love and resilience. As the snow ❄️ fell, Jackie stayed hunkered down, gently covering both of her babies and keeping them safe and warm through the storm. Through it all, Shadow proved once again what a devoted partner he is, arriving with a fish 🐟 to provide for his family. Together, they show the perfect balance of care and strength, Jackie protecting, Shadow providing, both deeply committed to their little ones and to each other. ♥️ * Daily Fun Fact: “FEATHERS” Bald 🦅Eagles are built for cold temperatures and snow. They have a layer of down, over 7000 interlocking, waterproof feathers 🪶 and ~105F core body temperature. Their feathers zip together over fluffy down feathers, shedding water and keeping the heat in. The most prolific eagles are located in Alaska. We should trust Jackie and Shadow’s instincts as that is what guides and protects them. 🪶 “Trust the eagles” 🦅 is a common phrase among observers. Even when they look “wet & soggy” or buried in snow, they are following centuries old biological blueprint for survival. 🪶 * Daddy Duties: Shadow had 7 nest 🪺 visits, 4 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 2 hours, 48 min. Bringing 1 fish to his Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟 * Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 10 feedings. Full crops were observed on both chicks. 16+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 was right on 🎯!! 📊 Today’s Tallies: 💠Jackie (J): 21 hours, 12 min in nest, 1 stick, 2 fish 💠Shadow (S): 2 hours, 48 min in nest, 1 fluff, 1 fish *only a few events-of-interest are listed
