* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: Starting at 5:27 many vocals 🎶 between Jackie and Shadow can be heard. Shadow soon comes for his first shift at 6:00 while Jackie is seen on the Simba Tree. Shadow also visits the ST 🌲and there we observe a couple ravens strafing him later at 11:08. He stays perched and we observe a raven leaving at 11:13. Shadow’s foot also seems to be healing as he is putting more weight on it, and even holding a fish with it. The morning seems to go quickly with many feedings 🐟 and nest deliveries. Ravens were seen later as Jackie & Shadow chased them, around 15:00. Last shift change was at 19:15 when Jackie took over for the night.🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow and chicks, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: Starting around 10:56am, we got a brief glimpse into the remarkable nest builders these two chicks will one day become. First, Chick 1 🐥 grabbed and nibbled at a big bunch of fluff in its talons. Shortly afterwards, when Jackie started rearranging a freshly-delivered bundle of fluff 🌿, Chick 2 moved a few pieces alongside her. Heartwarming moments 💗 such as these demonstrate just how much the chicks learn by watching Jackie & Shadow – and we’re excited to keep watching all the lessons in their future!
* Daily Fun Fact: "MOBBING! 🐦⬛ " If you've ever seen a group of ravens relentlessly pestering an eagle, you’re watching a high-stakes game of "aerial keep-away." While it looks like the ravens are being bullies, it’s actually a calculated survival strategy called mobbing. The "Best Defense is a Good Offense " Ravens don't mob just for fun; they do it to protect their own 🪹 nests. Ravens are much more agile than eagles. While an eagle is a powerhouse built for soaring and heavy lifting, a raven is like a stunt plane. Ravens can fly upside down and perform barrel rolls to avoid an eagle’s talons. Ravens are "Snitches" 😁 When ravens start mobbing, they make a specific, harsh alarm call. This isn't just noise - it's a broadcast to every other bird in the area that a predator is near. Smaller birds will often join in or take cover once the ravens sound the 🦅 "Eagle Alert." 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 8 nest 🪺 visits, 3 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 5 hours, 12 min. Bringing 4 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 6 feedings. Full crops were observed on both chicks. 24+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 were right on 🎯!!
