* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: Shadow started bringing fish 🐟 at 6:48 keeping the pantry stocked and the chicks well fed. He was also observed holding the fish with both talons. By the time afternoon came he had already delivered four fish. At 12:55 territorial activity was seen as Shadow was in the attic of the nest tree and a raven was strafing him. Later at 15:13 Shadow went to the Twin Pines 🌲 (TP) while Jackie tended to the chicks. As the fog 🌫️ and rain rolled in Jackie hunkered down, and used her mombrella ☔ to help keep the chicks covered. Shadow flew off the TP, while Jackie continued to protect.🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow and chicks, we love yout! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: On the nest today a sweep of weather, as Jackie settles in close, shielding her babies with quiet strength and steady devotion. No matter the wind or chill, her warmth never wavers, rain or shine,a mother’s care and love is always there, constant and sure. Nearby Shadow rises to the moment as well, delivering four fish 🐟 today to keep his family nourished and ready for the bad weather ahead.Jackie and Shadow show us what true partnership looks like, resilient, attentive and deeply in tune with the needs of their growing chicks. 🦅♥️
* Daily Fun Fact: “MOMBRELLA” ☂ During inclement weather Jackie will spread her wings to cover and protect her 🐥chicks. Her brood patch will keep them warm. It’s called Dadbrella when Shadow does the same. The parent engages their leg muscles to hover slightly or "tent" their body. They support their weight on their "elbows" (the carpal joints of the wings) and their feet, creating a sturdy, breathable canopy that can withstand high winds and heavy snow. Eagle feathers are naturally oily and interlocked like shingles on a roof. When an eagle spreads its wings to cover the chicks during a storm, the water doesn't soak through; it beads off the "umbrella" and onto the nest floor. This keeps the chicks’ downy fluff bone-dry. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 7 nest 🪺 visits, 2 brooding sessions. Total nest time for Shadow was 1 hour, 45 min. Bringing 4 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 8 feedings. Full crops were observed on both chicks. 21+PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 were right on 🎯!!
