* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: This morning Luna and Sandy spend time self-feeding 🐟 starting at 7:08. Luna also strikes a perfect horaltic pose at 7:18. At 8:42 it is Shadow’s turn to keep watch, which he does from up on the Y branch. Meanwhile, the chicks were doing nestorations and winger-cizing 🪽 in-between naps. At 9:48, Sandy nibbles off some branch nubs from a stick. Luna and Sandy are also becoming more vocal, 🎶 Luna’s squees can be heard at 13:24. At 16:50 Luna ends up with a beak full of Shadow’s talons, most likely trying to grab the fish he came in with. 😂 Sorry Shadow! 19:04 Jackie and Shadow visited the Cactus Snag together, and a Steller's Jay also visited them for a moment. Jackie flew back to the nest at 19:37. 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: During Shadow’s late-morning shift, he supervised the chicks 🐥 from Y branch while perched on one foot – his other foot dangling down off the branch to rest. Down below in the nest, Luna was watching closely and copied Dad’s pose almost exactly at 10:37 – standing on one foot, then extending the other out in front. It was the sweetest moment of “eagle see, eagle do” 🥰 and showed us all just how much Sandy and Luna continue to learn by watching their devoted parents. 💗
* Daily Fun Fact: "Silent Language" Eaglets don’t just "cheep." They have a whole 🎶 vocabulary. The "Feed Me": Whistle: A high-pitched, rhythmic peep. The "I’m Chilled" 🥶 Chirp: A softer, more urgent sound. The "Watch Out!" 🐍 Hiss: Even before they can fly, they will hiss at a passing raven 🐦⬛or hawk to sound "big and scary." 😱 Because they are learning so much (like that "neck stretching" and "stick juggling" you saw), their brains are incredibly active during naps. You might hear tiny, soft "dream chirps." 💭 It’s thought that they are practicing their vocalizations or processing the day's lessons while they 💤 snooze. Vocals are almost always tied to body language. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 7 nest 🪺 visits. Total nest time for Shadow was 5 hours, 46 min. Bringing 4 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 1 feeding. Luna and Sandy partook in 😋 self-feeding . Full crops were observed on both chicks. 30+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 1 was right on 🎯!!
