* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: The morning sunrise 🌅 came with Luna on the rails for the nest! They both spent some time doing winger-cizes, nestorations and preening. At 5:47 Shadow delivered a stick, followed by Jackie. Bringing the total up to three sticks by 7:10! 🤭 Finally at 9:59 the first fish was delivered and Sandy & Luna spent a good 30 min self-feeding! At 12:03 the chicks do a few beaky kisses 😘 before Sandy gets their yoga stretching in for the day. 16:12 both were observed make great vocals 🎶 while tracking a bird flying by. Around 17:47 Luna gets a bit impatient during self-feeding and takes a bite right out of Sandy’s beak. 😂19:03, Sandy vocalizes after a poop-shot 😁 just like Jackie does! 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: : As evening settles over the nest, we get a close up of both the chicks. Sandy and Luna begin winding down for the night 🌛. Before bedtime, they both share a few sweet moments together, gentle beaky kisses 😘 and curious little check in with each other. This display of affection reminds us of the special bond they have formed while growing up side by side, and we cherish every second of watching them together. 💗
* Daily Fun Fact: "TRAMPOLINE EFFECT" Eaglets don't just jump at random, they are learning to read the weather 🌬️ like a meteorologist. They use the nest sticks like a launchpad, jumping straight up and letting the oncoming breeze catch the underside of their 🪽 wings. By timing their jumps with the wind, the chick can easily catch 3 to 5 feet of vertical air inside the nest bowl! Once they get high enough in the air during a big jump, they will do something magical: they will stall out and hover in place for several seconds. This is vital proprioception training (the brain's awareness of where the body is in space). It teaches their nervous system how to balance against shifting crosswinds before they ever take the leap out of the tree. As they descend from a hover, they will aggressively throw their huge feet forward to grip and "tackle" a heavy nest log, locking themselves back down safely to headquarters! 🪶
