* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: 🥳Through many observations, the FOBBV team has made an educated guess that Luna is a boy and Sandy is a girl! 🎉 Starting at 5:03 we could hear Jackie and Shadow’s vocals 🎶 throughout Big Bear Valley. Meanwhile on the nest, Luna and Sandy are both taking turns branching on the Back Porch, as well as staying active 🤸 with plenty of winger-cizing. The first fish 🐟 comes in the afternoon at 12:56, and both chicks are quick to self-feed on it. Later, at 15:33, Sandy gulps down a whole fish after winning a round of tug-o-fish. 😂 Around 19:41 the chicks became a pretty sleepy 😴 chick puddle while Jackie was on the front porch. 🌙 Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: While sitting proudly in horaltic pose in the late-morning sun, ☀️ Luna got a fluffy white feather stuck to his beak. Perhaps remembering when Luna helped her out in a similar situation, Sandy leaned in just before 10:27 and gently removed the feather. 🪶 Luna seemed grateful, until Sandy continued nibbling at his wings, which was maybe a bit too helpful. 😂 Regardless, the two exchanged a few beaky kisses and once again showed us the ever-growing strength of their sibling bond. 💗
* Daily Fun Fact: ”EAGLE HEARING” Eagles’ hearing 👂is not as developed as in some mammals such as dogs, and some birds like owls. While hearing is functional and sharp, it's secondary to their vision. Eagle hearing is roughly comparable to that of humans. They can perceive 4 octaves and, like most humans, are most sensitive around 2k Hz. Though they may lack the specialized “super hearing,” their auditory system is a vital tool for monitoring their territory and communication.They can recognize their mate's specific vocalizations, such as when one parent is ready to be relieved of incubation duties. 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 4 nest 🪺 visits. Total nest time for Shadow was 3 hours, 22 min. Bringing 3 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 1 feeding. Luna and Sandy partook in 😋 self-feeding . Full crops were observed on both chicks. 22+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 were on 🎯!!
