* The Big Bear Nest Diaries: As night ✨ turned to day, the sunrise 🌞 filled beautiful Big Bear Valley! Luna and Sandy were observed winger-cizing while waiting for break-fish to arrive 😁! Jackie came with the first fish 🐟 at 7:17 followed by Shadow at 7:57, TY Jackie & Shadow 💗! Both chicks self-fed, with some tug-o-fish involved, 🤭. Luna casted a pellet at 7:21. Later, the chicks spent some time preening and doing stretches. Sandy got her talons stuck on a stick at 12:11 during a stretch, but no worries she got it off. Not to be outdone, Luna does a winger at 14:53 with a fish in his talons. Around 19:14 Sandy gave Luna a close-up view of her feathers. 😂 🌙Roost Snug Jackie & Shadow, Luna and Sandy, we love you! ♥️
* Quiet Moments: Sometime before 7:58, Shadow picked a branch on Simba Tree 🌲 and stayed perched there through the morning and into the early afternoon. As the sun ☀️ shifted in position, Shadow also shifted – moving closer to the shaded trunk of the pine while he watched over the valley below. When, at 13:54, Shadow finally left his hidden perch and flew towards the lake, Sandy and Luna 👀 tracked him from the nest – learning the layout of the land by watching Dad. 💗
* Daily Fun Fact: “Nest Builders” Eagles are compulsive nest 🪹 builders, even when not in the breeding season they may still occasionally drop off a stick or two. Nests are made up of sticks, and fluff 🍃. Some eagles 🦅 do make more than one nest, although this is Jackie and Shadow’s only nest 🪹. Jackie in fact has used this same nest since 2016. Jackie and Shadow’s nest is about 5 1/2’ wide and 6’ deep. This is large enough for many adult humans to lay in. Both males and females work on the nest, typically 2-3 months before laying eggs 🪺, by breaking branches with their talons to add to the structure. The act of building a nest 🪹 and rearranging it is also a great way for eagles to maintain their bond with their mate. 🥰 🪶
* Daddy Duties: Shadow had 3 nest 🪺 visits. Total nest time for Shadow was 2 hours,11 min. Bringing 3 fish to His Chicks and Queen Jackie. 🐟
* Munchies and Mutes: Jackie and Shadow served 2 feedings. Luna and Sandy partook in 😋 self-feeding . Full crops were observed on both chicks. 30+ PS🐥(Poop Shots) were sliced, 0 were on 🎯!!
